Today I start with a quote from Diane Ravitch. “A person who knows ‘how’ will always have a job. The person who knows ‘why’ will always be his boss.”
It reminds me of a television show called Holmes on Homes. This pro bono contractor helps people properly fix their construction problems. It’s a very good example of how quickly problems can multiply on a job without proper supervision.
The show’s host goes to great extremes to show how common pitfalls in remodeling can lead to costly mistakes. He is a man who knows “why” and he shares his insight on the best practices in the industry. I personally think it’s one of the best home improvement shows on television. You can watch it on The Home and Garden Channel.
Quick tip:
It’s time to check those gutters. Make sure they are free from buildup of leaves and other obstructions. Perform a visual inspection to make sure things like downspouts and gutters are still properly attached. Also check to see if the discharge area is away from the home and downhill to avoid the water re-entering your home via the drain tile system, consequently running your sump pump excessively.
